Donald "Don" Flathers

Donald G. Flathers, 56, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown.  Funeral services for Don will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Friday, August 24 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time.  Donald Flathers was born on February 20, 1962 in Marshalltown to Lester and Waunema “Dolly” Beaderstadt Flathers. Don graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1980. Don had owned and operated his own electrician business as well as being the inventor of the Hitch-Loadmate, which was a stress reliever for a tow vehicle. On September 21, 2009, Don was united in marriage to Monaliza “Mona” Hortizuela in Las Vegas. Don enjoyed drag racing and being active in dart and pool leagues. Above everything else, Don enjoyed spending his time with his family.  Don is survived by his spouse of almost 9 years, Mona, his son Lance (Sarina) Flathers of Huxley, step children: Lisa Hammar and Erika Hammar and step grandchild, Novarae. He is also survived by his siblings: Marsha (Larry) White of Arizona, Susan (Jeff) Schwend of California, Jerry (Claudia) Flathers of Marshalltown, Nancy (Tom) Dobson of Arizona, Richard (Yorie) Flathers of Japan and Ronald (Michelle) Flathers of Marshalltown as well as several nieces and nephews.  Don is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dolly and a brother, Robert Flathers.
