Donald Farnsworth

December 10, 1946 — July 12, 2023

Donald “Don” Farnsworth, 76, of Conrad, Iowa, passed away after a brave battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.


A family-led Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Cremation rites have been entrusted with the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born December 10, 1946, in Cresco, Iowa, he was the son of Gerald “Jerry” and Helen (Necas) Farnsworth. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1964. After meeting the love of his life, Nancy Gethmann, the two were united in marriage on September 5, 1970. They made their home for over 40 years in Northeastern Marshall County before moving to Conrad in 2015.


Don was a hard worker and dedicated 35 years at Emerson – Fisher Controls before retiring. He was a faithful member of Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook and the Izaak Walton League. In his free time, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and he has a large collection of tobacco tins. More than anything, Don loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.


Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy; his two sons: Nathan (Shaelynn) Farnsworth and Aaron (Megan) Farnsworth; four grandchildren: Aiden, Cole, Grace and Ashley Farnsworth; his brother, David (Janet) Farnsworth and many nieces and nephews.


In eternal life, Don is reunited with his parents, Jerry and Helen and his brother Terry Farnsworth.
