Donald "Don" Gruver

Donald “Don” Gruver, age 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Saturday March 9, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Per his wishes and his family, cremation rites will be accorded. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday March 15, 2024, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Donald L. Gruver who went by many nicknames, Don, Donny, Harold, Harry, HD; was born May 5, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the son of Everett and Mildred “Fern” (Mumford) Gruver. Don attended school within the Marshalltown school system before joining the work force. He was a golf course superintendent and in 1992 &1994 he was named Iowa Golf Course Superintendent of the Year. Don was also a member of the Iowa Golf Course Superintendent Association. Don enjoyed various outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, golfing, riding his motorcycle, growing “his award winning” tomatoes, and tending to his flowers. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially his two grandchildren. His family will miss his quick wit and ability to bestow you with a lifelong nickname.

Left to cherish his memory are his fiancé of ten years, Dianna Clute, his children; Mollie (Robert) Propp and Nathan (Meghan) Gruver, his grandchildren; Lauren Propp and Anson Gruver, and his siblings; Sharon (Dan) Propst, David Gruver, and Gary (Karen) Gruver, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mildred, his brother Ronald Gruver, his sister Carol DeGrado, his niece Allison Gruver and the mother of his children, Debra Sue Newcomer.
