Donald Hundley, 79, of LeGrand, returned to the loving arms of the Lord on Friday, October 5th, at the Grandview Heights Care Center while in their care, his family and the Iowa River Hospice. His death came peacefully at 5:15 p.m. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. He will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery at Haverhill with a time of fellowship following at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Don was born on July 29th, 1928, to James and Margarita (Harms) Hundley in Waterloo. He was raised in the area and graduated from the Iowa School of the Deaf in Council Bluffs in 1947. He married Betty Durns of Cedar Falls in 1953. He worked at Montgomery Wards in Waterloo and then as a Linotype operator for Holst Printing in Cedar Falls until 1955. In 1995, they moved to Marshalltown and he worked as a linotype operator for Marshall Printing and was in the Local 414. From 1958 to 1974, he worked at the Marshalltown Times-Republican as a Linotype operator. He worked two years in Des Moines area as a Linotype operator for several companies. From 1976 to 1986, he worked at the East Marshall School as a custodian. In 1986, he started at the United States Post Office in Cedar Rapids as a Mail Handler and retired in 1994. Mr. Hundley and his wife moved to LeGrand in 1969 and raised five children. He liked to build model cars and airplanes, watch soap operas, spending time with his family and dog Woodruff Woody, camping and enjoyed old cars. He leaves behind his wife Betty of 54 years, children: Dean of Nevada, Linda (Les) McCargar of Gilman, Gordon (Karen) of Ankeny, Randy of Melbourne, and Kevin (Tracy) of Marshalltown, five grandchildren, his sister Joann Hill of Las Vegas, brother Bert McGuire of Waterloo and dog Woody. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raleigh and William McGuire and infant sister, Annabelle.
