Born August 25, 1948 in Marshalltown, Iowa, Don was the son of Robert and Selma (Weuve) Mettlin. After he attended Marshalltown Schools, he worked for a short time at Ferneau House Moving before starting a position at Fisher Controls. Don was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country. Upon his return, he resumed work at Fisher Controls and retired after over 37 years.
Don was married to Debie Storjohann, and the couple was blessed with two children, Marty and Trisha. The couple later divorced. Later in life, he shared a longtime companionship with Cheryl Wickham.
In his free time, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and loved spending time out on the golf course. Don was a member of Pheasants Forever, the UAW and the American Legion. As the well-known “social director” at the Old Timer, he loved having a cold one and being the life of the party. He was stubborn and ornery but always had that smile on his face. He loved the simple things in life and always lived his life to the fullest.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Marty (Corina) Mettlin of Johnston and Trisha (Dave) Gill of Albion; grandchildren: Kaylinn (Ryan) McRill, Ashley (Giorgio) DiIorio, Alex Miller, Madison Mettlin and Brody Mettlin; great grandsons: Masen and Kameron; sister Pearl Ferneau of Marshalltown; Cheryl Wickham of Marshalltown and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don is preceded in death by his son, Todd Reisetter; grandson Reece Adams; brother-in-law, Bob Ferneau and his parents.
