Donald Powers, 81, of Montour, Iowa, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice surrounded by his loving wife. Services for Donald will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St Henry Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. For additional information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Donald Arley Powers entered into the world on August 14, 1940 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Lawrence and Erma (Judge) Powers. He grew up in Montour, Iowa where he attended school and later graduated from Montour High School in the Class of 1958. He later attended college. On April 25, 1981, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Joyce Chizek at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Traer, Iowa. For many years, Donald worked for Fisher controls starting in their factory warehouse and making his way to working in their offices in Marshalltown. He officially made his retirement in 1995. In his free time, Donald was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Catholic Church. He loved raising Belgian Draft Horses and went twice a year to the Waverly Draft Horse sale. He was a big supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and held season tickets for numerous years. In his younger years he was a fan of baseball and cheering for AJ Foyt in the indy car races. He took trips for many years to Indianapolis speedway for the indy car races. He loved to farm and had his nephews to help him along the way. Donald would always tell you what he felt. He was a loving husband and family man to both his wife and his nieces and nephews. He always knew that he had some of his Amish friends to depend on when it came to the farm. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife Joyce Powers; his brother Wendell Powers; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents Lawrence and Erma; his siblings, Harvey, Joyce, and Judy; and his four-legged furry companion Cassie.
