Donald Keith Schmidt

Donald Keith Schmidt, 81, of Marshalltown, died early Monday morning, October 27th, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Being generous in death as he was in life, Mr. Schmidt donated his body to the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There will be a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one-hour prior. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on January 7th, 1927, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Robert and Winifred (Beason) Schmidt. He graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1945 and served our country honorably in the United States Marines Corps at the end of WWII. Mr. Schmidt was the father of three children, Roxanne, David and Robert from his first marriage to his wife, Vi. In 1963, he was introduced to Frances Gard and on May 19th, 1984, was united in marriage to her. They made Marshalltown their home and was a garbage hauler at Kleen Kan Garbage Service for over 50 years. They also delivered Pennysavers for 26 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Frances, children: Roxanne, David (Sue) and Robert (Arla), step-children Becky Patterson, Jack Bown, Norma (Anthony) Coop and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren/step-great-grandchildren. In death he has rejoined his parents and a stillborn brother, Robert, Jr.
