Upon his graduation from Marshalltown High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He honorably served his country for four years while simultaneously attending trade school. Together they made their home in the Marshalltown area and Grundy Center, where they raised their four children. Hardworking and dedicated, Don worked at Emerson – Fisher in the computer department until his retirement in 1996. Don and Cheryl spent their winters together in McAllen, Texas, where they were members of the Baptist Temple Church. He was a member of the Vagabonds in Marshalltown and enjoyed camping and fishing. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Cheryl; his children: Timothy (Rosemary) Stanley of Spring, TX, Christopher (Lisa) Stanley of Marshalltown, Patrick Stanley and Melissia Stanley, both of Nevada; grandchildren: A.J., Grant, Joshua, Jack, Marshall, Bethany, Marnie and Doug; great-grandson Oliver and several step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Pennell of Marshalltown; his nieces and nephews and one dog, Bear Bear and two cats, Sophie and Sammy.
