Donald Viers, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, February 26th, 2007, at the Iowa Veterans Home where he has resided since March 27th, 2001. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 2nd, at the Colo Cemetery with military honors including taps by Richard Mohler. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. leaving for the cemetery. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Donald and his family. He was born near Collins on April 25th, 1925, to Richard and Ora Viers. He was the youngest of ten children and attended school at Rhodes. Donald served our country proudly in the United States Army enlisting at age 18. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also received a commendation from the people of Norway for his help in the Liberation of Norway on May 8th, 1945.Donald was married to Edith Cook. Two children, Vickie and Judy Kay preceded him in death. Surviving are Don Viers, Jr. of Oxnard, CA. and Sandy McSpadden of Las Vegas, NV. three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Wilma Viers of Marshalltown and several nieces and nephews. He lived and worked in the Marshalltown area at a variety of jobs including Meeker Laundry, excavating, selling cars, and lawn service. He so much enjoyed his brothers and sisters and always told of and admired their good qualities. Preceding him in death were five brothers: Jake, Jack, Eldon, Jim and Richard and four sisters: Helen Halterman, Mildred Butters, Genevieve Pierson and Maxine Mallicoat and his longtime companion, Irene Warnell.
