Donald Welchie Keith Welch, 78 of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Donald will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. Donald Welch was born on August 15, 1937 in Richmond, West Virginia to Edward and Thelma Brown Welch. Donald was raised and educated in the Rainelle and Charleston West Virginia area. Donald served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1954 until 1958. Donald moved to Marshalltown in 1958. On October 25, 1958, Donald was united in marriage to Jill Collins. They later divorced in September of 1968. Donald had previously worked for KIOWA Corporation from 1959 until 1972 as well as Toms Cue and Brew from 1981 until 2004. Donald enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, bowling and drinking beer. Above all else, he cherished the time spent with all of his grandchildren. Donald is survived by his companion and special friend Janell Mikkelson, children: Donna (Ramon) Mendoza of Gilman and David Welch of Grinnell. Grandchildren: Michael (Sara Myers) Story, Damon (Marc) Wolfson, Heather (Oscar) Guillen and Tiffany (Andrew) Welch. Great grandchildren: Haley Story, Justin Myers, Lindsey Story, Travis Story, Santiago Guillen, Maria Guillen, Lia Guillen, Austin Welch, Oscar Guillen, Adam Welch and one on the way. Siblings: Lorene Cline of West Palm Beach, Florida and Irene (Julius) Tyson of Damascus, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. Donald is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Thelma and brother in law Dean Cline Sr.
