Donald Don Wyllie, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2014, where his family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Don and his family. Donald Wyllie was born on March 15, 1935, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of James and Ester (Donath) Wyllie. He was raised and educated in the Sigourney School District, graduating from Sigourney High School. Following high school, Don attended the University of Iowa, being on the roster for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team for 1 year before enlisting in the Army. Don honorably served his country honorably from 1955-1957. While in the Army he served as a mechanic and was an excellent marksmen. On October 19, 1957, Don married the love of his life Ida Werner, in Ulm, Germany, at a United States Army Chapel. After marriage he and Ida resided in Melbourne, IA, while working for Martin Marietta on the road crew at rock quarries around Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri until his retirement. Don had a passion for Iowa Hawkeyes sports, fishing, hunting, bingo, wintering with his wife in Arizona, and his family. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Ed (Ann) Wyllie of Marshalltown, IA, Jim (Kristy) Wyllie of Belton, TX, Bob (Sandy) Wyllie of Marshalltown, IA, and Brian (Elke) Ewalt of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Ryan, James, and Megan; step-grandchildren: Tonya and Nicole; three great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; siblings: John (Diana) Wyllie, and Josephine (Jimmy) Williamson. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers: James and Theodore; one sister, Jean; and grandson, Jacob Wyllie.
