Donna Gummert, age 75, of Quarry, passed away suddenly on the night of Tuesday, June 14th, at the Central Iowa Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18th, at the 1st United Church of Christ in Marshalltown with Dr. Rev. Kim Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Donations may be made to two causes she held dear- her church home or the Animal Rescue League. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Donna Rash on January 13th, 1941, in Marshalltown, she was one of five children born to Wade and Mary (Youngworth) Rash. She graduated from St. Marys High School in 1959. On September 5th, 1960, she was united in marriage to Charles Gummert, as the first couple married in the new St. Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Donna was a hard-working wife and mother who was employed at J.C. Penneys, Osco Drug, Safeway Foods, A&W (where she met Charles) and McDonalds in Marshalltown. She was a member of the 1st United Church of Christ and TOPS. Donna treasured her family and enjoyed playing Canasta and Uno, sewing and her dogs. She and Anita used to walk from Quarry to Marshalltown with their beagle, Joe, to meet Chuck after work and ride home with him. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 55 years, Charles, her sisters and brother- Cheryl (Larry) Murphy of Marshalltown, Linda (Jim) Studts of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and Ed (Chris) Rash of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister-in-law Shirley Gummert of Marshalltown, daughter-in-law Julie Banzhaf Fox of Marshalltown and many nieces and nephews. In death, she rejoined her parents, her sister Leann Hatton and her daughter, Anita Gummert, exactly four years and one-day after her tragic passing on June 13th, 2012.
