Donna Lou Hanzelka

Donna Lou Hanzelka, 88, of Marshalltown and formerly of Le Grand, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Donna Lou will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, House of Compassion or a charity of your choice. Donna Lou Hage was born on August 5, 1929 in Norway, Iowa to Ole and Clara Swensen Hage. She graduated from Le Grand High School in 1946 and then went to Marshalltown Community College. On August 7, 1950, Donna Lou was united in marriage to Valerian Val Hanzelka at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She had sold Stanley and Avon products for a number of years and then when Marshalltown Manufacturing expanded to a second facility, she was one of the first ones hired. She was there until the plant moved out of town then worked at the American Legion in the dining room before working at Wal Mart for 19 years. Donna Lou loved her family; she was generous, cheerful, funny and kind hearted. She was a member of Le Grand ACT Club, charter member of the Le Grand Lioness Club, Marshalltown TOPS, Birthday Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. Donna Lou is survived by her husband Val of Marshalltown, daughter Valarie (Godfrey) Sherriff of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Dina, great grandsons, Derek and James and great great grandson Joshua all from the Des Moines area. Donna Lou is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Orla Jean and Karen LaRue, brother Edward Thomas and her son Mark David.
