Donnie Buffington

Donnie D. Buff Buffington, 75, of Laurel, died Saturday, January 26th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday when the family will be present. Memorials may be directed to the family, to be distributed among various organizations. Born on August 8, 1932, in Albion, Iowa, he was the son of Vernon L. and Leona (Waldo) Buffington.Donnie received his education in the Albion schools.He joined the US Navy and served 4 years. Donnie was married on May 27, 1952, to Lucille Brown, in Des Moines. They lived in San Diego, CA and Laurel during their married lives. Donnie retired from Fisher Controls after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Laurel American Legion and the UAW 893. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, being a Cub Master, and coaching Little League, including helping to start the little girls softball league in Laurel. Surviving Donnie are: his wife, Lucille, of Laurel; his children, Katherine(Willis) Miller of Gilman, Douglas Buffington of Laurel, Deborah(Gary Lippart) White of Marshalltown, Paula(Don) Allen of Steamboat Rock; his 9 grandchildren, Stacy, Chanda, Lance, Lisa, Daniel, Nicholas, Angel, Wynde, and Jenny; his 7 great-grandchildren, Zack, Alex, Logan, Whitney, Morgan, Bryan, and Preston; his siblings, Alberta Birchard of Marshalltown, Ilo(Betty) Buffington of Marshalltown, Helen Buffington of Spanaway, WA, Richard (Anna Lee) Buffington of Marshalltown, and Lavonne(George) Baker of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Verne Buffington.
