Doris Lorraine Fisher, 80, of Marshalltown died after a 20 year battle with COPD on Monday, September 21st, 2009 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, with her loving family by her side. A celebration of Doris life will be 10:30a.m. Friday, September 25th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Doris and her family, phone 641-844-1234. Doris was born in Marshalltown on February 8th, 1929 to parents Marvin and Orlen (Garrett) Carson. She attended Marshalltown schools. On December 22nd, 1945 Doris was united in marriage to Gilbert Fuller. They later divorced. On March 7th, 1981, Doris was united in marriage to Virgil Fisher. Doris had lived in the Gilman and Laurel areas, Marshalltown, in Washington D.C for 12 years, and most recently at the Iowa Veterans Home. Many years ago, before she was married, Doris worked at Kresges Dime Store and the C&R Grill. She then worked at the Tallcorn Hotel, then the Marshall County Extension Service. Doris then moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the National Federation of Independent Unions. In 1980, she moved back to Marshalltown and worked at Dick Grossman Insurance and Schrodt Ent. Doris then owned and operated Doris Fisher Bookkeeping Service until her retirement. Doris loved genealogy, painting, and crocheting. She was an avid reader, and very much enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to celebrate Doris life is her daughter Nancy (Roger) Mommer of Donna, TX, her daughter Marvis (Richard) Drew of Marshalltown, and her son Roger Fuller of Grinnell; her nine grandchildren: Alisa Schroeder, Heidi Fuller, Jennifer (Robb) Boggs, Robert (Kim) Drew, Randy (Connie) Mommer, Kevin (Shelly) Mommer, Les Fuller, Steve Fuller, and Ben (Jenn) Fuller; thirteen great-grandchildren; her brother Eugene (Jean) Carson of Marshalltown, her brother-in-law Richard Parker of Westminster, CA; as well as many friends. In death, Doris has rejoined her parents, her brother Marvin Carson, her sisters Arlene Harris, Donna Carlton, and Shirley Parker, her husband Virgil (2002), and Gilbert Fuller (2007).
