Doris Wilma Maxfield

August 20, 1915 — April 22, 2014

Doris W. Maxfield, 98, of Marshalltown, died early Tuesday morning, April 22nd, at the Villa del Sol. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Harlan Nuss officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Marietta Cemetery. Born Doris Wilma Maxfield on August 20th, 1915, in rural Marshall County, she was the daughter and one of eight children born to Gilbert and Martha (Page) Maxfield. She graduated from the Albion High Schools Class of 1932 and the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1939. Doris proudly served in the Army Nursing Corps in WWII stationed in the European Theatre while her sister, Alice, served in the Pacific Theatre. After the war she continued her nursing profession in various hospitals in Europe and North Africa. Left to cherish her memory are many nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law, Bessie Maxfield. In death, she rejoined her parents, and siblings: Ruth (Robert) Benbow, Alice Maxfield, Clifford (Verla) Maxfield, James Maxfield, Fred (Juanita) Maxfield, William (Darlene) Maxfield and Mildred (Floyd) Airey
