Doris A. Oldenkamp, 94, of Marshalltown, formerly of Primghar, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Per the wishes of Doris and her family, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation to the Israel Family Hospice House. Born Doris Alicia Farnsworth on September 8, 1926 in Primghar, Iowa, she was the daughter of Irving and Bena (DeVries) Farnsworth. She grew up in Primghar and after graduating from Primghar High School, Doris went on to attend Iowa State Teacher’s College. She was united in marriage to John Oldenkamp Sr. during a snowstorm on December 24, 1945 while he was home from the Navy on a three day pass. A devoted wife and mother, Doris stayed home to raise their three children. After they were grown, she worked for 8 years at Marshalltown High School as a special education para-educator. Doris was very family oriented, adored kids and loved making people happy. In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bridge from time to time with her friends. Many memories were made at Doris and John’s second home on Spirit Lake, where they would spend most of their summers. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Marshalltown. Doris was also an excellent cook and baker, famous for her angel pie and beautifully decorated Christmas cookies. Those left to cherish Doris’ memory are her daughters: Cindy Oldenkamp of Dubuque and Judy (Gary) Sawyer of Ames; foster son, Mohsen (Ria) Ghorbati of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren: Jay (Shawna) Cone, Michael (Ellyce) Cone and Jacob (Sammy) Sawyer; step-grandchildren: Monica (Mike) Hoff and Kyle (Jen) Sawyer; foster grandchildren: John Ghorbati, Araizu Ghorbati and Kaveh Ghorbati; great-grandchildren: Erika Cone, Nicholas Cone, Garret Cone, Emaleigh Cone, Victoria Cone, Ian Hoff, Ainsley Hoff, Easton Hoff and Mason Sawyer; and her nephews, Franklin and Richard Seney. Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her son, John “Jack” Oldenkamp Jr. and her sister, Irvene Seney.
