Doris Pothast

Doris Pothast, 92, of Ankeny, formerly of Melbourne, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Independence Village of Ankeny under the care of Kindred Hospice. Graveside services for Doris will take place on Wednesday, July 7 at 2:00 P.M. at Maple Grove Cemetery northeast of Melbourne. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, July 7 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Doris Shibe was born on September 6, 1929 in Marshalltown, where she grew up and received her education. On August 20, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to L. Merle Pothast. They were married 47 years before his passing. Together, they raised their two sons on their farm, first in Van Cleave and later in Melbourne. Doris was a hardworking farmwife and dedicated mother. Surviving her are her two sons: Russell (Lee Ann) Pothast of Pflugerville, TX and Earl (Sharon) Pothast of Des Moines; 2 granddaughters: Jessica and Amy and several nieces and nephews. In death, Doris is reunited with her husband, Merle; her parents and her siblings: Marian, George, Dallas and Lucille.
