Doris Simpson

Doris Catherin Simpson, 92, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Doris will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Foundation for the Blind. Doris Burnett was born on August 11, 1922 in Newburg Township, Iowa to James and Verna Kinnoman Burnett. On February 19, 1965, Doris was united in marriage to Donald Lester Simpson in Marshalltown. Doris had worked at Fisher Control for over twenty eight years before her retirement. Doris was a member of the Moose Lodge, and was a volunteer at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center as well as for the Share Program. Doris loved to shop (especially at Younkers), bird watching, her dogs and taking care of her family. Doris is survived by her children: Vicki (Duane) Hannah of Marshalltown and Jeff (Cindy Schultz) Simpson of Des Moines. Grandchildren: Chris (Wade) Fisher, Eric Hannah, Carrie Hannah, Kevin (Gary Ehrecke) Simpson, Steven (Diane) Simpson and Dan (Tracy) Simpson. Great grandchildren: Kirk Williams, Maci (Ryan Determan) Piatt, Chezney Hannah, Alexus Hannah, Jessica Hannah, Terry Winders, Lane Winders, Aryan Green, Ivory Green, Elizabeth Simpson and Jesse Simpson. Great great grandchildren: Wyatt and Alayna Williams and her sister Mary Lou Hobbs as well as many other nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents James and Verna, step son Jim Simpson, grandson Michael Hanegan, siblings Roger Burnett, Maxine Gifford, Betty Wilson and Max Burnett and a brother in law Ronnie Hobbs.
