Doris Walker, 93, a resident of Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 under the care of their staff, her family and Iowa River Hospice.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Gilman United Methodist Church. Phone 641-844-1234.The daughter of Leslie L. and Marie (Sawyer) Clay, Doris was born on August 27, 1918. She graduated with the class of 1935 at Gilman High School. Following her education she worked in restaurants and family homes. In 1938 Doris married Denver Walker; the family lived in Gilman and operated the Walker Super Valu store until 1970. A year later the couple moved to Wadena, Iowa and owned and operated the Wadena General Store. They retired in 1979 and moved to Grinnell. While living in Gilman, Doris was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Volga United Methodist Church when living in Wadena and was an Avon representative. While living in Grinnell she was a member of the United Methodist church and Grinnell Senior Citizens. After an illness in 2005 she moved to Villa Del Sol. Doris always made time for her family and friends and had a cup of coffee ready, awaiting their arrival. She liked to sew and didnt like to cook, but was good at both. In her later years she made quilts and wrote poetry. She enjoyed music and could sing along to many hymns and Golden Oldies. Doriss love and caring for other people lives in the hearts of those many friends and family she leaves behind.Her parents and her husband, Denver preceded her in death. Those surviving include her children and their spouses, Charlene and John Beisner of Boulder Creek , California, Deniece Walker and Larry Oster of Big Spring, Texas and James Walker of Marshalltown; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, sister Donna Lawrence and Jean Simpson of Marshalltown and brothers, Charles Clay of Corydon, Richard Clay of Cedar Rapids and Leslie Fritz Clay of Gilman.
