Dorothy Anderson, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Westbrook Acres with her loving family by her side. Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Berry officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where her family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral is caring for Dorothy and her family. Dorothy Kathryn Smith was born on April 26, 1928 in Marshalltown, Iowa; the daughter of James and Elisa (Alice) Miller Smith. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown school district graduating from Marshalltown High School. Following high school, Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald E. Anderson, on January 28, 1950. From this union two children were raised: Tracy and Kathy. Dorothy was a farm wife making sure everything was always taken care of at home and on the farm until she and Don became administrators of Story and Tama County Homes until she retired in 1993. The couple resided in Marshalltown, Van Cleve, Nevada, Toledo and Tama. She had a passion for her family, sewing, crafts and baking. Left to cherish her memory are her two children: Tracy (Sue) Anderson and Kathy (Joe) Mayo; grandchildren: Elisa, Pauli Jo, (Tracys), Shawna, Brooklyn, Brittny, Andrea, Maddi, Kinzy; great-grandchildren: Caden, Kaitlyn, Joey, Jaiden and Wyatt; sisters-in-law: Ruth, Hisako, and Tana. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald; siblings: Roy, Jim, Bud, Blanche, Clairbelle, and Larry; and brothers-in-law, Harry Jr, Harry, and Ralph; sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Helen.
