Dorothy Irene (Moody) Buchan, 100, cherished matriarch of the Buchan family, passed away on December 6, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home. A private family service will be held in her honor. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff of Malloy 3 South of the Iowa Veterans Home for their genuine and thoughtful care for Dorothy.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used at a later date once a fund has been established. For condolences please visit www.Mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.      Dorothy was born on the family farm on April 5, 1918 to the parents of Abner and Julia (Hartness) Moody. She graduated from the La Moille High School with the class of 1935. After her schooling she was united in marriage to Merle Alan Buchan on July 5, 1942 in Missouri. She was very proud of her faith.  Dorothy gladly taught Sunday School for fifteen years at Grace Evangelical United Methodist Church, and was a dedicated member of the church.          Dorothy was a master, down home cook and made the best meals for her loved ones.  Her traditional cooking was always made from scratch, and she took pride in providing elaborate meals.  Dorothy, growing up during the Depression, did not need material items.  Instead, she cared for and valued the memories that she was making with her family. Her life was defined by putting others before herself, and living each day with integrity.      She worked hard her entire life in all that she did.  Dorothy  took great pride in her career, as well as in her home, her yard and garden, her friendships, and her family. She finally retired at the age of 82 from the Marshalltown Schools as a lunch lady. She loved every minute of her day, always making a positive impact on anyone that had a chance to know her. She will be remembered for her positive attitude and daily grit that had been passed down through the generations.      Left to cherish her memory is her son Frank (Sue) Buchan, grandchildren; Ben (Jill) Buchan of Ankeny, and Abbi (Del) Lowry of Ankeny; greatgrandchildren Praze, Marlee, Destry, Jude, Elias, and Darian. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom had an important place in her heart.      She is preceded in death by her parents Abner and Julia, her husband Merle in 1976, and her nine siblings: May, Monroe, Luke, Haynes, Bill, Nellie, Harlan, Laverne “Boots”, and Ralph.
