Dorothy Fisher, age 85, of Marshalltown, formerly of rural Garwin, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 24th, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Dorothy Belle Heintz on September 14th, 1934, at Liscomb, Iowa, she was the daughter of Wm. Charles and Alice (Parsons) Heintz. She graduated from the Liscomb High School in 1951. On December 28th, 1951, she was united in marriage to Carroll Fisher at the Baptist Temple in Marshalltown. The young couple then moved to Texas where he was stationed in the service. After his honorable discharge two years later, they moved to the farm where they resided their whole life near Garwin. Dorothy was a homemaker and helped Carroll with the farming as well as being employed with Rose Hill Memorial Gardens/Iowa Memorial Gardens Assn. beginning when she was 19 as a secretary and following as a co-owner and then sole owner until retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Carlton Brethren Church and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and family dinners and in younger years, bowling. She was also a member of the Iowa Association of Cemeteries. Left to celebrate her life are her daughter, Jeanne Fisher of Milford, Iowa; son-in-law Marty Mitchell of Marshalltown; her grandchildren- Stephanie Mitchell of Green Mountain, Gracie Fisher of Milford and Myles Mitchell (fiancé’ Alexa Peters) of Marshalltown and great-granddaughter, Haley Sue Balmer of Green Mountain. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, MaryEtta Fisher of Marshalltown as well as nieces and nephews. In death, Dorothy rejoined her beloved Carroll who passed away in February of 2005, her daughter Susan L. Mitchell in September of 2005, her parents, sister Maxine Hagedorn, brothers-in-law Gerald Fisher, Belmond and Duane Fisher in youth and sister-in-law Gwen Thompson.
