Dorothy Horn, 96, of Marshalltown, formerly of Dillon, died early Saturday morning, June 13th, at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown while in their care, her loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17th, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon with Pastor Fred Berry officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Dorothy Rubenbauer on July 8th, 1912, at Dillon, she was the daughter of George and Anna (Hansen) Rubenbauer. She graduated as class salutatorian for LeGrand High School in 1931 and later the Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI). She taught in a one room schoolhouse south of Montour and then north of Marshalltown for many years. Mrs. Horn was also a substitute teacher for LDF and SEMCO schools. On December 29th, 1933, she was united in marriage to Robert (Walter) Horn in Wilton Junction, Iowa. They made their home in the Dillon/Gilman area farming until moving to Marshalltown in 1990. They later moved to the Embers in 1997 residing there until his passing after 67 years of marriage. Dorothy moved to the Villa del Sol in April of 2005. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon where she taught Sunday school, did quilting and church dinners and liked to play 500 and making clothes for her daughters. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Leon (Marcia) Horn of East Lansing, MI, Marlene Horn of Marshalltown, and Marjorie (Stan) Schmeiser of West Des Moines, six grandchildren, sisters-in-law Dolores Horn and Eileen Horn both of Marshalltown, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, husband Walter who died in October of 2001, and brothers Lloyd and Edward Rubenbauer.
