Dorothy Johnston, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital. Memorial services for Dorothy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Herschberger officiating. There will be no public visitation prior to services. She will be laid to rest at St. Josephs Cemetery located in Rhodes, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed in Dorothys name to her family. Dorothy Malechek was born on June 7, 1930, in Rhodes, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Malechek. She was raised and educated in the Rhodes school district graduating from Rhodes High School. On October 31, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roy Johnston in Colorado Springs, Colorado. From this union two children were born: Mary and Jeff. The couple later divorced. Dorothy was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Dorothy worked hard as a homemaker, taking good care of her family. She was very detail-oriented; making sure everything was in its proper place. She also loved to bake, garden and dance. Dorothy always looked forward to her weekend getaways with her family on the Mississippi River, where she enjoyed boating and fishing. Left to cherish Dorothys memory are her children: Mary Lawrence and Jeff (Dawn) Johnston; grandchildren: Valerie Garduno, Danny Johnston, Michael Johnston, Kate Johnston and Jenissa Johnston; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
