Dorothy Lorene Michaels was born at home in Newburg, Iowa on July 22, 1928 to parents Franzie and Minnie (Roseland) Michaels. She played basketball at Newburg High School, where she graduated with the class of 1946. Dorothy met the love of her life, David Lyle, and the couple was united in marriage on October 19, 1947 in Newburg. They made their home on their farm just south of Laurel, where together they farmed and raised their three children. Dorothy was a hardworking farm wife and devoted mother. She was a dedicated member of the Laurel United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Laurel. She loved a good joke and was a jokester herself. Dorothy continued to enjoy sports for the remainder of her life as a spectator, either in person or watching on TV.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Susan (Bill) Green of Daphne, AL, Sally (Ron) Jansen of Marshalltown and Thomas (Diane) Lyle of Round Rock, TX; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In eternal life, Dorothy is reunited with her husband David, her grandson Dustin Green, her parents Franzie and Minnie, and her siblings.
