Dorothy Aleen Moore

Dorothy A. Moore, 97, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Grandview Heights under the care of Hospice Compassus.

Services for Dorothy will take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday, October 7 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Alex Post officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A visitation will take place one hour prior beginning at 9:30 A.M. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Dorothy and her family. Born Dorothy Aleen McFate on June 1, 1927 in Toledo, Iowa, she was the daughter of Earl and Leora (Long) McFate. After graduating from Toledo High School, she attended cosmetology school in Des Moines. Dorothy met the love of her life, Richard H. Moore, at the Marshalltown skating rink. They were united in marriage in 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church in State Center and enjoyed 15 years of wedded bliss until his tragic passing in 1968. Dorothy dedicated her life to raising their three children while also working as a cosmetologist at the Masonic Temple. She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran and later Redeemer Lutheran Church. Dorothy loved spending time outdoors, especially yard work and tending to her flower beds.

Left to cherish her memory is her children: Timothy Moore of Madison, AL, Brenda Moore of Niwot, CO and Diane (Randy) Hight of Lafayette, CO; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; niece Marilyn Benson and nephew Gary Benson.

In eternal life, Dorothy is reunited with her beloved husband Richard, her parents Earl and Leora McFate, and her sister Mildred Benson.
