Dorothy Jean Shaw, 82, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Dorothy McCombs was born on August 8th, 1931 in Buxton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sydney and Anna Sereg McCombs. Dorothy married Ed Gene Shaw on June 8, 1950 in Albia, Iowa and to this union four children were born: James, Pamela, Jeff and Gary. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching birds and collecting angels. She had been a member of the American Red Cross and the director of the Dorcas Community Center. Dorothy was also a caretaker for her family. She especially loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Left to cherish her memory is her children: James (Peg) Shaw of Wilber, Nebraska. Pamela (Mike) Shaw-Watson of Marshalltown. Jeff (Patty) Shaw of Melbourne and Gary Shaw. Grandchildren: Christina (Charles) Cheville, Kyle (Aly) Shaw, Michelle and Lindsey Wiggins, Desiree (Tyler) Zeman, Gary Shaw II, Ashley and Lane. Great grandchildren: Carson, Brielle, Ellie, Mackenzie and Braelyn. Siblings: Gert Ahn, Bob McCombs, Lucille Volkamer, Ruth Larson, John McCombs, Ron McCombs and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Gene, both parents and daughter in law Nancy Shaw.
