Dorothy A. Sutherland

Dorothy A. Sutherland, 84, of Albion, Iowa, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her loving family by her side. Thomas was born on January 20, 1934 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Nelson) Thomas.  She was raised and educated in the Albion school district, where she graduated from Albion High School.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Sutherland on December 23, 1951 at the Baptist Temple in Marshalltown.  From this union two children were born: Tia and Tim.  Dorothy was known as a “second mom” to many children as she spent her years being a daycare provider.  Being able to help raise so many children was such a blessing in Dorothy’s life. She had a passion for collecting Cabbage Patch dolls, Beanie Babies, Precious Moment dolls, spending time with her family and friends, going on shopping trips with the girls, and watching all types of sports. Left to cherish her memory is her Husband: Robert “Bob” Sutherland; Children: Tia Landas and Tim (Lynne) Sutherland; Grandchildren: Adam (Amie) Sutherland, Andy Sutherland, Sara Landas, Ryan Landas, Josh (Amanda) Conley and Nate Sutherland; Great-Grandchildren: Aaron Sutherland, Aidan Sutherland and Mya Conley; Siblings: Marlys Keeler, Margaret Vannatta, Robert (Marcia) Thomas, Sherry Lloyd, Marvin (JoAnn) Thomas and Thomas Cavanaugh; as well as many Nieces and Nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Mary Thomas; siblings: Paul Thomas, Richard Thomas and Patty Hanegan.
