Dorthy Billman

Dorthy Billman, 93, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Born on October 22, 1932, at home in rural Marshall County, she was the daughter of Tunis and Edna (Miiller) Wisgerhof. Dorthy grew up in rural Laurel and graduated Laurel High School. She met Clifford "Cliff" Billman at the roller rink and the couple was united in marriage on August 27, 1950. They made their home on the Billman family farm and celebrated nearly 50 years together before his passing in 2000.

In addition to her hard work and dedication as a farm wife and loving mother, Dorthy worked several jobs over the years, including food services at State Center Manor, State Center Meat Locker, Caldwell Country Packers, and food service at MCCF, where she retired in 1997. A dedicated member of the LaMoille Congregational Church, Dorthy was actively involved in the women's fellowship, and other church functions. She generously gave her time to the church and the House of Compassion.

Dorthy enjoyed crafting, solving jigsaw puzzles word finds, reading and gardening. Shopping outings were a simple pleasure that she enjoyed sharing with friends. She was blessed with love again later in life, marrying Bill Tomlinson on August 13, 2011. Above all, Dorthy’s love for her family was the most important thing in her life and she cherished her time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her children: Nadine (Kevin) Burke of West Des Moines, Diane (Bill) Veren of Punta Gorda, FL, Dan (Mary Ann) Billman of State Center, and Randy Billman of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren (plus one on the way); and her sister, Jean (Bob) Malechek of Allen, TX. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Cliff Billman; second husband, Bill Tomlinson; her parents, Tunis and Edna; and two brothers: Edward and Jerry Wisgerhof.

Dorthy will be lovingly remembered and honored during services held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation is scheduled for January 24, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:30 AM. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
