Douglas Carson Winders was born November 22, 1947 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Doug was the third of four children born to Carson and Lenora (Shank) Winders. He grew up in Garwin and attended school at Garwin High School graduating in 1965.

Doug had three children, Jill, Joel and Jamison who were his everything. Doug lived and breathed farming. He was known to be a collector of all kinds of tractors as well as over the years caring for chicken, cattle and hogs. Additionally, Doug was known for his strong work ethic and devoted nearly 20 years of service between the City of Tama and the City of Toledo Police Departments. He met Sharon Parks and the two became life partners who enjoyed each other’s company. They spent 38 years making many memories together between family events and everything in between.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed fishing, playing whoever would dare play him in cribbage, watching baseball and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. After a hard day’s work, he liked to settle down and watch old westerns and enjoy a home cooked meal. His family meant everything to him and loved to spend time with his children as well as his grandchildren as much as he was able.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Jill (Brad) Webb of Robins, IA, Joel (Shanann) Winders of Crossroads, TX and Jamison (Michelle) Winders of Iowa City, IA; his six grandchildren, Abby Webb, Brendan Webb, Gavin (Kristin) Winders, Braeden Winders, Spencer Winders and Etta Winders; partner, Sharon Parks; his brother, Dennis (Cathy) Barnes of Gladbrook, IA; nephews, who he had a close relationship with, Gabe Winders and great-nephew Terry Winders; Sister-in-law, Shirley Winders of Garwin, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.
