Douglas 'Doug' Downs

Douglas Doug Downs, 59, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services for Doug will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Whitehead officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Dougs family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Doug and his family. Douglas Downs was born on May 7, 1956, in Houston, Texas, born the son of Jerry Howard and Norma (Martin) Downs. They later divorced and Norma married Harold Downs, whom adopted Doug as his own son. He was raised and educated in the South Tama School District graduating from South Tama High School. Following high school, Doug attended Iowa State University. Doug was a hardworking man, dedicating his working career as a General Contractor and most recently Harley Davidson Sales in Des Moines. He was a proud member of the H.O.G- Harley Owners Group. Doug had a passion for riding his Harley, listening to a good Blues Band, collecting tools and most importantly his family and friends. Left to cherish Dougs memory are his parents: Harold and Norma; Dougs second family: Andy (Jessica) Hall, whom he called son, and their children, Donovan, Miaanna and Adara, who called Doug Grandpa siblings: Diane (Jeff) Plunkett, David (Karman) Downs, Patricia (Tim) Dolezal and Sherry (Mark Easley) Roseburrough; also several nieces and nephews; an uncle, Dennis (Sherry) Martin, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph (Thelma) Martin and Francis (Lilly) Downs; siblings, Rick Schlosser and Connie Schlosser; and an uncle, Donny Martin.
