Douglas Arnold Finders, 77, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on November 24, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice House.
Born in Marshalltown to Irene and Gordon Finders, Sr. on September 24, 1946, Doug was the third of six children. He attended school in Ferguson, Iowa until the family moved to Marshalltown while he was in junior high school. Doug graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1964. He also attended Marshalltown Community College and Buena Vista University. Doug spent many successful years in sales including insurance, energy-saving items and fabric and upholstery. He fully embraced the products he sold with an emphasis on fostering relationships with those he met along the way.
Doug had a lot of love to give, and truly valued having a partner in life. He married Kathleen Helleso in 1965. Together they had a son, Scott Douglas, born in 1966. Although their marriage ended, a lifelong friendship remained. Doug married Charyl Ann Cook in 1969. Daughter Alyssa Renae arrived in 1970 and son Tyson Jeffrey in 1978. Doug and Charyl instilled a love of travel in all three of their children, often building trips around sporting events. They were married for 45 years until the time of Charyl’s passing in 2015. In 2019, Doug married Linda Gardner Finders. Doug and Linda made the most of their time together, spending a lot of time bike riding and traveling. Linda lovingly cared for and supported Doug as he recently battled health issues.
He is survived by his wife Linda Finders; his children: Scott (Penny) Finders of El Segundo, CA; Alyssa (Jeff) Lang of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Tyson (Erica) Finders of Marshalltown, IA; his grandchildren: Jack Finders, Matthew Finders, Nicole (Jake) Oswald, Ashley Lang, Trenten Finders, Ashten Finders, and Brenden Finders; great-granddaughter Lilah Rose Oswald; his siblings: Gordon “Chip” (Kay) Finders, Jim Finders, and Laurie (Brian) Hoing; numerous nieces and nephews; and the 11 children and 14 grandchildren of Linda Finders. Doug treasured spending time with his family, especially when it involved telling stories and singing. He enjoyed music of all types, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and traveling with family. He made a friend just about everywhere he went.
He was preceded in death by his wife Charyl Finders, parents Gordon and Irene Finders, his sister Nancy Finders, brother Gary Finders, and his grandparents.
