Douglas Hays, 49, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.Services, conducted by the family, will be at Great Commission Church, Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Richard Edgor officiating. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Douglas James Hays was born on March 12, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Ronald and Treva (Simmons) Hays. Douglas attended school in the Marshalltown Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1982. Douglas loved to ride his bicycle and would ride up to 80 miles a day. He also liked to go treasure hunting at the Goodwill Store. Douglas enjoyed football and was a fan of the Washington Redskins. Above all else, Douglas had a big heart and loved to spend time with his family and friends.Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Ronald and Treva; the love of his life, Lonnie Lingo, and her daughters, Amber Lingo-Storjohann and Angela Lingo-Hamilton. Brother: Von (Kristen) Hays, and their children, Henry and Eleanor of Lewisville, Texas. Sister: Ronalea (Brian) Alleman, and their child Caleb, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Uncles: Donald (Joan) Hays of Guthrie Center; Richard (Myrna) Hays of Murray, Iowa; Robert Van Hemert of Pella; Doran (Bonnie) Simmons of Sacramento, California. Aunts: Shirley (Gene) Monday of Parkersburg, West Virginia; Uncle Edward (Rosemary) Hays of Alma, Arkansas. Douglas will also be missed by a host of other relatives and friends.Douglas is preceded in death by his grandparents: A.J. and Eleanor Hays, and Douglas and Zella Simmons; and several aunts and uncles.
