Douglas Doug Hinton, 68, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at his home. Being a man who knew how to have a great time in life, friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Immediately following all are invited to a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating. Basic Military Honors will be presented by the Marshalltown combined Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be directed in Dougs name to his family. Douglas Michael Hinton was born on February 23, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Kanzok) Hinton Nissen. He was raised and educated in the Marshalltown School District graduating from High School in 1966. Following high school, Doug attended DunWoody College in Minnesota. Doug was a proud Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He received his Honorable Discharge as a Navy SeaBee. On August 24, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marla Johannsen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. They were blessed with a daughter, Cherie'. Even though their marriage dissolved they still maintained a close friendship. He would always consider Marla (Grabenbauer) his best friend. Doug worked in the family business of Hinton Heating and Cooling, was a territory Representative for Lennox Industries and Retired from Thybar Carrollton TX. in 2012. He was a proud member of the Lions Club, Late Great Chevys Dallas Texas and American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post # 46. Doug had a passion for cooking, car clubs, and his friends and family. Left to cherish Dougs memory is his daughter: Cherie'(Scott) Wacha of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Nicholas and Kristin Wacha of Marshalltown; siblings: David (Dolly) Hinton of Nashville, Tenn; step sisters Karen Kelley of Chesapeake Va. and Kathy Nissen of Gilman Ia.; and his ex-wife and best friend: Marla Hinton Grabenbauer. He is preceded in death by his parents: Cecil Hinton, Dorothy Hinton Nissen; Aunts and Uncles and his two dogs: Melwig and Harley.
