Douglas Holven

Douglas (Doug) Craig Holven, 55, of Tama, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at his home in Tama. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family in the Nature Center, at Otter Creek Lake and Park, 2283 Park Rd Toledo, IA 52342, Sunday February 2nd at 11:00 am. Doug was born November 4th, 1958 in Waterloo IA, son of Lloyd (Thomas) and Phyllis Holven. He attended Waterloo and Eldora school districts, and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Doug was married to his former wife, Tracy Lynn Baker, for twenty one years. They had three children Heather, Nathaniel, and Chelsea. He started his career in the US Navy and later become a certified welder and master carpenter. Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman enthusiast. He enjoyed the outdoors, playing cards, and cribbage with his family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and close friends. Survivors include his parents Lloyd (Thomas) and Phyllis Holven, the mother of his children, Tracy Harms; children, Heather (Joe) Myers, Nathaniel (Brooke) Holven, Chelsea(Will) Rice; seven grandchildren, Aidan, Justus, and Adelynn Rice, Sophia, Caleb, and Landon Holven, and Dillon Myers. Two sisters; Rebecca Alexander and April Graveman, and brother Russel Holven. A memorial fund has been established in his memory that will be used for grandchildrens education.
