FOR FUNERAL SERVICES AND VISITATION OF DOUGLAS POOLE To clarify a couple of items regarding the funeral and visitation for Doug Poole, we want to pass on this information. First, there will be a PUBLIC VISITATION, which anyone can attend. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. His beloved wife, Ms. Vickie, will not be in attendance, but friends may come to pay their respects. Please honor Ms. Vickie’s privacy and desire to allow the many friends time on Friday. Doug’s death after many long weeks in the hospital have been very trying and exhausting. The funeral service will be a PRIVATE EVENT- by invitation of the immediate family. At app. 12:30 p.m. Saturday, friends and family can view the funeral via livestream. The app. will be included on Doug’s obituary on the Mitchell Family Funeral Home website, so you can simply click on it to be taken to the service. It will also stay there for those not able to view at that time. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery in his Iowa Hawkeye regalia following the funeral services. Douglas Ira Peenie Poole, 69 passed away on April 13, 2022 at the Mercy One Cardiac Unit in Des Moines. Born February 15, 1953 to Raymond and Ella Mae Poole, Doug was educated in the Marshalltown school system and was a 1971 graduate of Marshalltown High School. He completed one year of education at Marshalltown Community College. Doug held various positions in different areas of employment during his work career. He was employed with The Chicago Northwestern Railroad, was Director of Circulation and Carrier Management at The Marshalltown Pennysaver. Also part owner of the Muskie Trading Post, winning numerous awards in all areas of ad composition. In an effort to de-stress and simplify his life, Doug began a career in mixology. He served patrons at Coulters, Buffs Billards, American Legion and most recently The Junction Lounge on Highway 30 He was an avid reader, sports fan and lover of all types of music. Of course his favorite college football team was the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also loved a good game of cribbage, pool or three cushions billards and excelled at all of those things. In October of 1994, he married his Ms. Vickie (Victoria Poole), and Marshalltown was their home thru out their married life. Doug never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He saw value in everyone-no matter their station in life. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Vickie, daughter Nanette (Shawn) and grandson Jarrod De Bruyn of Marshalltown Granddaughter Kelsey (Lane) and great granddaughter June Kline of State Center. Brother Tim Poole of Union Grove Lake; brother Matt Poole of Mesa Az. Step brothers Gary and Bryan Thompson of Marshalltown, step brother Kenny Thompson of Paradise Ca. Step sister, Bonnie (Jim) Larson of Clearwater Fl. Foster brother, Jerry (Caril) Daugherty of Waukee IA. With a host of nieces, nephews, cousins friends and many others. Preceding Doug in death were his parents Raymond and Ella, step father, Robert T. Thompson, infant brother Delbert Francis and sister Sherri Rae, and foster brothers Larry, Bob and Dick Dougherty. A private family service is planned, with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 23rd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. The private service will follow for those invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Doug’s name can be made to Salvation Army of Marshalltown, Hope Ministries of Greater Des Moines or any other charity of your choosing. -Lovingly written by Doug’s family
