Douglas Michael Wilkening was born February 23, 1956 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was one of two children born to Ronald and Gwyequetta (Hoskin) Wilkening. Doug grew up in Marshalltown, attending school at Marshalltown schools and was a graduate of the class of 1974.
While in high school, Doug met his high school sweetheart Jacqueline Newton and on August 28, 1976 they were united in marriage. They built their life together raising two children, Michelle and Mitzi. Doug worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown working maintenance. He would later retire from the company after 43 years. Within the last six years, Doug and Jacqueline spent the winter months in Harlingen, Texas. Outside of work, Doug was very active in many clubs and organizations over the years, he was part of the U.A.W. Local 893, and RC Club down in Texas, the Lakewood Leadfoots.
In his free time, Doug loved to spend time with his family and just be together. Part of the reason they chose the area where they traveled south in the winter months was to get away from Iowa winters. He loved to travel out west to see the mountains and national parks, spending time in the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting small game, going camping, and fishing. He would light off a roll of firecrackers on July 4th which became a tradition. Three key traits that the family would use to describe Doug was Adventurous, loved to be around anything fast, and most importantly family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his daughters, Michelle (Miguel) Chavez of Waverly, IA and Mitzi (Ryan) Schnackel of Solon, IA; his grandchildren, Valerie, Veronica, Vanessa, Galen, Gwyequetta, Rosalind and Niels; his brother, Gregory (Deborah) Wilkening of Conroe, TX; his mother-in-law, Merry Newton of Marshalltown, IA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his fur baby Hunter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Gwyequetta; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his father-in-law, Jack Newton.
