Duane Jackson

February 9, 1954 — June 24, 2025

Marshalltown

Duane Jackson, age 71 of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family by his side.

Duane Matthew Jackson was born on February 9, 1954 in Hampton, IA, the son of James and Lucille (Root) Jackson. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1972.

On June 24, 1978, Duane was united in marriage with Vicki Schaum at the Rhodes United Methodist Church. From this union, they were blessed with two daughter, Anna and Jennifer.

Duane was a hard-working and dedicated employee. He worked at Gray Iron Foundry for several years before working at M Gervich & Sons for 29 years. He retired in 2016.

Duane’s spent most of his time hunting, fishing, and loving his family. He was featured in the Pope and Young record book for the record deer he shot. Duane was a passionate fisherman – he was known at Sand Lake as the “fish whisperer”. He had never missed a trout release at Sand Lake and he was determined to not let his illness hold him back this year. Duane would only keep the fish if his family would eat them, otherwise he was a catch and release fisherman. While out fishing, he made numerous lifelong buddies after the hours of trash talking to them; Duane liked to razz his buddies that he could catch more than them.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucille; his mother-in-law, Anna Six; sister, Diane Vasquez; an infant brother; brother-in-law, Bob Schultz; sisters-in-law, Joyce Jackson and Kathy Westscott; and he is reunited with his fishing buddies, Tom Underhill and Gary Warnell. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Vicki; his daughters, Jen Jackson and Anna Jackson (Jaime Sandoval), all of Marshalltown; his grandsons, Kane Jackson-Minser, Myles Miller, Ashton Davis and Braeden Davis; and great-granddaughters, Nova and Maeve Miller. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary Jackson and David Jackson, both of Marshalltown; his in-laws, John (Jackie) Six and Renee Schultz; his best friends, Herb and Judy Wilson; and countless fishing buddies.

Per Duane’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with a memorial service will begin at 7:00 P.M. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.
