Duane Lee Matteson, 85, of Albion, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Duane will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Duane and his family. Duane Matteson was born on September 9, 1930 in Independence to Rex and Mabel Hundley Matteson. After High School, Duane served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp from January 8, 1952 until January 7, 1960. On February 14, 1956, Duane was united in marriage to Carol Shaffer in Winthrop, Iowa. Duane had worked for Berg Corporation and retired when he was 65 and continued to work part time. He had also worked construction and as a heavy equipment operator. Duane loved spending time at The Office in Liscomb. He enjoyed watching sports; especially the Cubs and college football. He also enjoyed being a stock car mechanic and was an avid Ford fan. Duane is survived by his children: Julie Randall of the Marshalltown area, Dennis (Rosie) Matteson of Rhodes, Beverly Brown of Albion and Vincent Matteson of Albion. Grandchildren: Marty, Ranea, David D.J., Christy, Stacey, David, Rusty, Nick, Gina and Breannea. He is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews: Gary, Trendy and Raymond Matteson and several cousins. Duane is preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents Rex and Mable and brothers Dixon and Russell Matteson.
