If you are reading this, I have ridden off into the sunset, to that great Harley Heaven in the sky!
Duane Marvin Roum, 61, of Haverhill, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 23,2022 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Duane was born on June 26, 1961, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Beverly Roum. He married his soulmate, Diane (Boisvert) Roum, of 29 years on July 3, 1993, after two years of convincing her. Diane was the love of Duane’s life, and when the two of them were together, there was never any question the depth of his love for her. They created a wonderful life and family together over the years with each other, their children, and grandchildren.
He was employed with Lennox for 23 years. He received his certification from Iowa Valley as a Utility Technician and Heavy Equipment Operator, working for IBEW Local 55.
As a community steward, he donated countless hours of his time as an EMT-First Responder for 20 plus years. He was a valued team member on C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team), and an American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Instructor. One EMS call that stood out above the rest for Duane was when he responded to an emergency at one of his children’s homes, just in time to deliver his grandson, Jacoby.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Duane. Duane loved spending time working on his cars, hunting, fishing, and collecting animals. Collecting animals?? He collected dogs, cats, rabbits, Koi fish, strays, strays, and some more strays. He never asked Diane for permission, but he always asked her for forgiveness, as his animal collection multiplied. Harley Davidson was a passion! His first Harley was a 1987 Soft Tail and his latest, greatest, a Road King. He loved Harleys so much each time a new grandchild was born, he would commemorate their birth with a new Harley t-shirt! Duane’s greatest passion, accomplishment, pride, and love were his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
If you had the privilege of knowing Duane, you were blessed. His charisma, character and smile would ignite a room with warmth and love. Respected and loved by so many, he was an exemplary human being.
Duane is survived by his wife, Diane Roum, his children, Joshua (Christina) Roum; Benjamin (Megan) Gonzalez; Elizabeth (Adrian) Gallegos; Sarah (Andrew) Gribbins; Anthony (Lacy) Baldazo; Kathryn (Brian) Roum, and 18 cherished grandchildren: His grandchildren: Tyler, Bryce, Christopher, Jaxson, Ben, Jon, Makayla, Ruben, Mya, Thalia, Aberham, Mila, Cecelea, Carson, Mia, Jacoby, Thomas, and Elizabeth, his brother Michael, and sisters Connie Roum, and Linda Roum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin, and Beverly Roum; brother, Albert Howard; mother-in-law, Garnet Boisvert, and brother-in-law, Roy Boisvert.
