Duane "Eli" Yilek

August 31, 1954 — August 13, 2023

Duane Edward “Eli” Yilek, 68 of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday August 13, 2023.


A visitation for Eli will take place on Saturday August 19 from 5:00–7:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He will later be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials in Eli’s name can be directed to his family for a later designation. Duane was born on August 31,1954 in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Edward and Doris (Chambers) Yilek. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1974. Eli lived in Marshalltown the majority of his life and worked for Diamond Vogel in Colorado. He later worked for the City of Marshalltown till his retirement in 2009. At age 54 he started to work part time for Walmart as a 3rd. shift stocker. Eli was a proud member of the Moose Lodge of Marshalltown. In his free time, he collected Coca Cola, Campbell’s Soup, and Budweiser memorabilia. Every Friday you could find Eli at the Marshalltown or Boone Speedway. In the summer time he enjoyed going water walking or in the mornings you could find him at Planet Fitness as well.


He is survived by his siblings; Jackie (Mike) Craun of Boone, Mary Wunder of Ames, Mike (Terri) Yilek of Marshalltown, nieces and nephews; Jeff Welch, Andy Welch, Jon Welch, Stacie Vincent, Melissa Wunder-Hobbs, Trisha Ceballos, and Michael Yilek; great nieces and nephews; Keaton Welch, Blake Nyberg, Tanna Levendusky, Kara and Ethan Welch and Xavier and Keira Jensen, Cade Hobbs, Dylano Castellanos, Damion Castellanos, Evelyn Carranza, Nayla Carranza, and Ella Carranza and his brother-in-law Paul Welch.


He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Doris Yilek, and his sister Linda Welch.
