Dwight McDonald was born on September 5, 1952 in Eldora, Iowa to Wilber and Mary (Pemberton) McDonald. He graduated from Union-Whitten High School in 1971. Dwight met Cindy Vickroy in 1984, and they were together for 39 years during which they were united in marriage. Dwight had farmed and worked at Fisher Control from the 1970’s until 1982; worked for Manatt’s Inc. from 1982 until 1988; owned and operated McDonald Construction from 1988 until 2010 and then went back and farmed from 2010 until 2022 with Cindy on their dream farm in Russell, Iowa full of Red Angus cattle.
Dwight was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Grand Lodge of Iowa AF & AM as the Grand Chaplin. He was also a member of the Montague Lodge 117 in Eldora, Chariton Lodge #63, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, St Aldemar Commandery #30 Knights of Templar, King Solomon Council #2 and Signet Chapter #38.
Dwight enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada with Charlie and friends and taking his grandchildren fishing at the pond or in Branson, Missouri. He especially loved time at their second home in Branson where he and his father-in-law, Merle, had friendly fishing competitions when he wasn’t being the best fishing guide on Lake Taneycomo. He also loved giving gator rides to his grandchildren on the farm and teaching them how to drive. He loved to read, talk politics, solve the world’s problems and educate others on Red Angus cattle. Dwight cherished time with all his family whether it be on the random weekend or with the entire McDonald clan once a year. He also was a man of God that loved his church family, particularly their life group and his time as a youth leader within the Kids for Truth program.
