Pauline Wall, February 20, 1924, she was one of six children born to Albert A. and Sylvia Shelton Wall. The family lived in the Montour area, and she attended Potter University (the nickname given Potter Country School by its students) through the 8th grade. She continued to help on the family farm, and as she got older worked out taking care of new mothers and babies in the area. She was married to August Edward (Gus) Schultz, on June 13, 1942, in Lancaster, MO, and they lived with his parents on the Kubik Farm south of Marshalltown, until they moved into Marshalltown. Both worked for the Marshalltown Community School District, Gus as director of transportation and Polly as a custodian in the schools (at Norris Elementary, Old Central, MHS, and Lenihan) for over 30 years. She retired in 1980.For the past 11 years she had lived at the Odd Fellows Apartments, and had moved to Grandview in March of this year. During her active years, she had bowled on several womens and couples teams, participated in many tournaments, and bowled in the Womens International Bowling Congress tournament in Las Vegas several times in the 70s, as well as in tournaments in Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Denver. She was also an avid crafter and seamstress, and she spent many hours doing needlework, especially yarn work and embroidery.Among her many stories, was a favorite memory from her 75th birthday when nearly 200 family members and friends gathered to honor her at an open house; for her 80th birthday a This Is Your Life, Polly Schultz event pleased her. In recent years Alzheimers Disease robbed her of reliable memory, but she never forgot her family, even though she lost track of many other things. The lights of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Angela, David, Douglas and Jamie Schultz, Steven and Todd Whelan, and Baby Edwards. Survivors include her only son, Ed Schultz, and his wife, Lorraine; her granddaughters, Angela Schultz-Whelan and her husband, Kevin Whelan, and their sons, Steven and Todd; and Jamie Edwards and her husband Chris, and their first child, due next month. Survivors also include 17 nieces and nephews in California, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and throughout Iowa. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Gus, in 1968; her grandsons, David and Douglas Schultz, in 1983; her longtime companion, Max Adkins, in 1997; and all of her siblings: Helen Wall Green, Agnes Wall Green, Robert Wall, James Wall, and Albert (Bud) Wall.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to a family memorial fund which will go toward education, and also into research on Alzheimers Disease.
