E. Roger Stevens, 76, died April 25, 2008 at the Iowa Veterans Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the St. Henrys Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a public vigil at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Ernest Roger Stevens was born on September 1, 1931, in Girard, Kansas to Ernest Raymond and Flossie (Feldman) Stevens. He graduated from Girard High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Pittsburgh State University and also earned a Master of Science from Iowa State University. Roger served our country in the US Army from June, 1953 to June 1955 in the Korean Conflict. On February 27, 1960, Roger married Janice Irving at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. They were blessed with three sons, Allen, Max, and Gordon. Roger had been employed by Fisher Controls since 1974, the year that the family moved to Marshalltown. He was an instructor at MCC and he worked many years at the YMCA and with youth in Little League. He was also a member of St. Henrys Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, academics, astronomy, being active at the YMCA, and helping young people. He loved to learn and to teach.Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Janice; his 3 sons, Allen (Jodi) of Marshalltown, Max (Christine) of Elk Horn, NE, and Gordon of Phoenix, AZ. In death, he has rejoined his parents and his in-laws, Gordon and Beatrice Irving.
