Earl Bachel

Earl Bachel, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his friends. Funeral services for Earl will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Harlan Nuss officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the start of services. In leu of flowers memorials in Earl’s name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. Earl George Bachel was born on December 10, 1928 to parents Oscar and Matilda Bachel in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Eagle Grove through eighth grade. He met and married his first wife Margaret Paglia on October 24, 1948. The two raised one child together, Margie Henoch. They were married until the time of her passing in 2000. In 2002 he married his second wife Julie Rassmussen until the time of her passing in 2017. They were united in marriage on August 16, 2002. Earl worked as a diesel mechanic for Chicago Northwestern and also Union Pacific Railroads. He worked with the railroad until his retirement in 1990. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, restoring antique cars, woodworking activities, gardening, fixing stuff (patch up artist), and putting the needs of others before his own. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Margie Henoch; grandson Frank Henoch; and many nieces and nephews. In death, Earl rejoins his first wife Margaret; second wife Julie; his parents Oscar and Matilda; brother Lloyd Bachel; and step sister Susan Roupe
