Earl Robert Fouts, 86, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, April 4th, 2010 at Villa Del Sol. A celebration of Earls life will be held at 10:30AM Saturday April 10th at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 5-7PM on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Earl will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Earl and his family, phone 641-844-1234.Earl was born on February 27th, 1924 in Sioux City to parents John and Nancy (Price) Fouts. Three months later, the family moved to Marshalltown. Earl attended Marshalltown Schools and graduated in 1943. In 1945, Earl joined the United States Army Air Corp where he honorably served his country as a Gunner, flying several missions out of England. On December 17th, 1966 he was united in marriage to Mina Kleyne at Elim Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where Earl worked for Hellbergs Jewelers. Earls career with Hellbergs began in high school, and continued for 27 years following his return from the service. He then owned and operated Earls Diamond Center in the Marshalltown Center Mall from 1979 until his retirement. Earl was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church having served on many committees and participating in many bible study groups. He was a member of the Presbyterian Flapjacks group, Kiwanis, and the Masons. In his earlier years, Earl enjoyed motorcycling and showing Tennessee Walker horses. Later he enjoyed photography, wood working, and traveling with his wife Mina.Earl was a kind man, who always had a smile for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and continue to love him. Left to celebrate Earls life is his beloved wife Mina; his son Earl Fouts Jr.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister Baunita Scott of Roswell, NM; his sisters-in-law Betty Mouw and Betty Fouts; his nephews Dennis (Sandra) Mouw and Daryl (Linda) Mouw; as well as many, many friends; and nephew and nieces. In death, Earl has rejoined his parents; his brother Wayne Fouts; his sister Winifred Frye; and his brothers-in-law Maurice Mouw and Kenneth Scott.
