Earl Eugene Wedgwood, 84, of Marshalltown died Friday, February 19th, 2010 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home. A celebration of Earls life will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 27th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Rich King officiating. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. There will not be a visitation held. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice, and to the First Presbyterian Church. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Earl and his family, phone 641-844-1234. Earl was born on February 5th, 1926 in Marshalltown to parents Mary Catherine (Kearns) and Benjamin O. Wedgwood. He attended school in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1944. Earl then enlisted in the United States Army, and served honorably in Germany during WWII. After returning from the war, Earl completed an electricians course at Marshalltown High School. Earl was quite the handyman throughout his life, remodeling houses using his extensive carpentry and electrical talents. Earl was a draftsman for Kiowa and later at Fishers, retiring from there. He had been a member of the American Legion and a plus 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Earl was a soft-spoken talented man who enjoyed long walks throughout the town and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Left to celebrate Earls life are his brothers: Dale Wedgwood of Marshalltown and Delos (Darlene) Wedgwood of Overland Park, KS; his sister Helen Allen of Escanaba, MI; many nieces, nephews, and friends. In death, Earl has rejoined his parents, his brothers: Wayne, Ralph and Carl Wedgwood; and his sisters: Ruth Wise, Alice Dennis, and Dorothy Wedgwood.
