Ed Gene Shaw, 82, of rural Marshalltown, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at his home. Visitation for Gene will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services for Gene will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at the Oakview Cemetery in Albia, Iowa. He was raised in both Ottumwa and Avery, Iowa, and went on to graduate from the Albia High School. Gene was married to Dorothy McCombs on June 8, 1950, in Albia, Iowa. To this union four children were born: James, Pamela, Jeff and Gary. Following their marriage Gene and Dorothy moved to Marshalltown. During his lifetime, Gene worked as a farmhand for over sixteen years and was then employed by Fisher Controls as well as Chuck & Verns Camper Sales. At the time of his retirement Gene had over twenty-five years of dedicated service with Fisher Controls. Gene enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of the Earnhardts. He also enjoyed camping, gardening and reading the Louis LAmour old western series. Above all Gene loved to spend time with his family and spoil his grandchildren rotten.Gene was a member of theSeventh-day Adventist Church where he actively served in many capacities including as an Elder and a Deacon of the Church.Gene is survived by his wife Dorothy of rural Marshalltown, his children: James (Peg) Shaw of Wilber, Nebraska, Pamela (Mike) Shaw-Watson of Marshalltown, Jeff (Patty) Shaw of Melbourne and Gary Shaw, his siblings: Don (Mary Ann) Shaw of Joshua Tree, California and Connie Rouse of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his grandchildren: Christina (Charles) Cheville, Kyle (Aly) Shaw, Michelle and Lindsey Wiggins, Desiree and Gary Shaw II, Ashley and Lane,his great-grandson Carson as well as many brothers and sisters in life which are too numerous to count.Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Raymond and Dwight and his daughter-in-law Nancy Shaw.
