Edward D. Wilson

July 15, 1951 — March 7, 2025

Edward D. Wilson, age 73 of Alden and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 7, 2025 at his home.

Edward Dean Wilson was born on July 15, 1951 in Eldora, the third of four children of James Lloyd and Icel (Mathes) Wilson. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and continued his education at Marshalltown Community College. In 1971, Ed received his Machine Technology Certificate.

Ed lived on Oak Ave in Marshalltown for many years, where he farmed while also raising cattle and hogs. He loved animals and attending auctions. He was a regular at the Van Meter Auction House until they closed, and he found new options in the area.

Ed was a simple man and a man of very few words. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone he could. Ed loved God with his whole heart; He had a relationship with God and now we can find peace in knowing Ed has joined Him in heaven.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, James and Icel; brothers, James L. “Jimmy” Wilson and Elmer L. Wilson; and niece, Tammy Morrison. He is survived by his brother, Rick (Pam) Wilson of rural Tama county; nieces and nephews, Troy Wilson, Travis Wilson, Trena Wilson, Trisha Wilson, Treasure Wilson, Trevor Wilson, Richard J. Wilson, Mary Elizabeth Icel Wilson, Jamie Marie Wilson, and Jerry James Wilson; along with several great-nieces and nephews.

Per Ed and his family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
